Driving Under the Influence Program
The DUI Program at Alternatives is based on the idea that education, intervention and treatment can have positive effects on the lives of DUI offenders.
Offenders must be evaluated through a state-wide, standardized screening program to determine the nature and extent of chemical use. A BAC of .16 or higher, underage offenders, and those at high risk are also required to complete the ACT 24 of 2003 Drug and Alcohol Assessment to determine their treatment needs. These two tools are a part of their court order and determine the extent of participation in the program but also affords them the opportunity to complete more intensive treatment.
The Alternatives DUI Program offers 12.5 hours of education for the first offender and 12.5 hours of education for the multiple offender. In addition, based on the ACT 24 Assessment, clients may fulfill their court ordered obligations by attending the 12 hours of the DUI Treatment Group, Inpatient or Outpatient treatment. The Intermediate Punishment Program is offered for repeat offenders granted house arrest in lieu of jail and is designed to motivate the client to take a more personal look at their drinking while providing the opportunity to interact and share with others.
The newest level of care offered to the DUI offender is the DUI Hotel, which gives the client an opportunity to complete their jail sentence, education and treatment during the 4 day sentence at the Hotel.
